Carl Milles (1875-1955), born in Stockholm, went to Paris around 1895,
where he attended the Sorbonne and subsequently became one of Auguste Rodin's assistants.
Rodin strongly influenced Milles' early work.
Milles became resident sculptor at Cranbrook in the 1930's.
